Scholarship Policy
Law Lab Africa scholarship programme for Africa Data Protection Compliance: A Practitioner's Guide. Last updated 24 October 2026.
1. About this policy
This policy sets out how Law Lab Africa awards scholarships for the course and the terms that apply once you accept one. It applies to every edition of the scholarship programme (Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria and Botswana). Each edition's scholarship page gives its own intake dates, fees and eligibility details; where this policy refers to "your edition's page", it means that page. The course itself is also governed by the Terms of Use of learn.lawlab.africa.
2. The awards
A full scholarship covers the whole course fee. No payment is required at any stage.
A partial scholarship covers part of the course fee. You pay the reduced fee stated in your offer, and Law Lab Africa and its partners cover the balance.
Both awards give the same course: every module, the practical client file, capstone assessment and feedback, and a certificate of completion for those who complete the required modules and the capstone. Scholars keep lifetime access to the edition they enrol in, as set out in the Terms of Use. Lifetime access does not include other editions or a later successor edition.
3. Eligibility and assessment
Who can apply is set out on your edition's page. We assess each application on the applicant's interest in data protection or privacy law, how the course relates to their studies or career, and whether they can complete it during the intake. For full scholarships we also consider financial need. Scholarships are awarded at Law Lab Africa's discretion, and the number of full scholarships is limited.
We may ask you to verify your status (for example with a student ID, a letter from your institution or details of your startup), or to provide evidence of the circumstances you described, before or after we confirm your place. An award made on information that turns out to be inaccurate may be withdrawn.
4. Accepting an offer
An offer is personal to you and cannot be transferred. It is open until the date stated in your offer email; after that date the acceptance link stops working. You accept through the acceptance page linked in your offer email.
A full scholarship is confirmed when you accept it. A partial scholarship is confirmed when your payment of the reduced fee is received.
5. Payment
Partial scholars pay the reduced fee by M-Pesa through our payment provider, Paystack, from the official acceptance page on www.lawlab.africa. Law Lab Africa never asks for payment to a personal M-Pesa number or by any other route, and never asks full scholars to pay anything. If anyone asks you for money in our name, do not pay, and report it to course@lawlab.africa.
6. Your course account and access
When you accept, you choose the email address for your course account. We recommend a personal address you will keep, rather than a university or work address that may expire. You then create your account at learn.lawlab.africa with that address, and your scholarship is applied automatically.
You can set up your account as soon as your place is confirmed. The course materials open on the first day of the intake shown on your edition's page.
7. Your commitment
By accepting a scholarship you confirm that you intend to complete the course by the end of the intake, and that you will use the course for your own study. Course materials are for your personal use and may not be shared, copied or passed on. The conduct rules in the Terms of Use apply.
8. Refunds
You may request a full refund of your scholarship contribution before the intake begins, provided you have not accessed the course materials. For the Kenya Edition, the intake begins on 31 October 2026; for other editions, on the date shown on your edition's page.
Once the intake has begun or you have accessed the course materials, refunds are generally unavailable, except where required by applicable law.
If Law Lab Africa cancels the intake, you will receive a full refund. If the intake is postponed, you may choose to transfer to the rescheduled intake or receive a full refund.
To request a refund, please contact course@lawlab.africa.
9. Your information
We use the information in your application to assess it and, if you accept a scholarship, to enrol you. How we handle it, how long we keep it and your rights are set out in our Privacy Policy.
10. Changes and questions
We may update this policy; the version that applies to you is the one in force when you accept your offer. Questions about the scholarship programme go to course@lawlab.africa.
