Africa Data Protection Compliance: A Practitioner's Guide (Kenya Edition) Scholarship Programme
Study Kenyan data protection law and learn how to apply it when advising clients, making decisions within an organisation and running day-to-day compliance.
Law Lab Africa is offering full and partial tuition scholarships to students, recent graduates and early-stage founders in Kenya.

- Full scholarship
- The course fee is covered in full.
- Partial scholarship
- You pay a reduced fee of KES 4,000.
About the course
What Kenyan data protection law requires of organisations, and how to put it into practice.
The Kenya Edition is designed for people preparing to advise on compliance, implement it within an organisation or take responsibility for how personal data is handled.
You study the Constitution, the Data Protection Act and its Regulations, ODPC guidance, ODPC determinations and court judgments, with Law Lab Africa's analysis of how they apply.
Across 18 modules, the course covers:
- The legal foundations and core obligations: lawful processing, individual rights, impact assessments, international transfers, breach response, registration and vendor responsibilities.
- Compliance in specific settings: education, marketing, biometrics, employment, health, digital credit, telecommunications and platforms, and the public sector.
- Enforcement and organisational practice: handling complaints, responding to regulatory action and building a compliance programme.
Video lessons and detailed readings explain the law. Worked examples, quizzes and practitioner exercises help you apply it. Source citations open the underlying material, and model answers let you compare your approach with Law Lab Africa's analysis.
The final capstone asks you to prepare a client advice pack: an issue list, a ninety-day compliance plan and two supporting documents.
What the scholarship covers
The complete Kenya Edition
Full and partial scholarship recipients both receive the complete Kenya Edition, including its lessons, videos, quizzes, practitioner exercises and capstone.
Fees
The standard course fee is USD 240. Full scholarships cover that fee in full. Partial scholarship recipients pay a reduced fee of KES 4,000, with the balance of tuition covered by Law Lab Africa and its partners.
Full scholarships
Every applicant is considered for a partial scholarship. If you cannot pay the reduced fee, you can also ask to be considered for a full scholarship. Kindly note that full scholarships are limited in number and will be awarded on a needs basis.
The intake and lifetime access
The intake runs from Saturday 31 October to Sunday 20 December 2026. Scholars keep lifetime access to the Kenya Edition after the intake ends, so you can return to the lessons and retake the quizzes. Lifetime access is to the Kenya Edition you enrol in. It does not include other editions or a later successor edition of the course.
Time commitment
Plan on about five to six hours a week during the intake for the lessons, quizzes, client file exercises and capstone.
Certificate of Completion
Learners who complete the required modules and the capstone receive a Law Lab Africa Certificate of Completion, which can be verified online.
Who can apply
You can apply if you are:
- currently studying at a university, college or the Kenya School of Law in Kenya;
- a graduate who completed their studies in the last twelve months; or
- a founder or team member of an early-stage startup in Kenya.
You should have a demonstrated interest in data protection or privacy law and be able to set aside time to study during the intake. Prior study of data protection law is not required.
If you receive an offer, we will ask you to verify your status, for example with a student ID, a letter from your institution, or details of your startup.
How we assess applications
We consider your interest in data protection or privacy law, how the course relates to your studies or career plans, and whether you can complete it during the intake. For full scholarships, we also consider financial need.
Your answers should explain your own interests and circumstances. Relevant examples help, but specialist training or work experience is not required.
We will tell every applicant the outcome by Tuesday 27 October 2026.
Apply for a scholarship
The application takes about ten minutes. A few sentences are enough for each written answer.
Applications open on Monday 12 October 2026.
Applications for this intake closed on Saturday 24 October 2026. Submissions are currently being reviewed.
